Leuze Electronic – Really powerful!

With optical sensors, sometimes the pure performance matters most of all

The AC/DC SR 49C all-voltage sensors, with relay and MOSFET outputs for high switching power, have been completely optimized for flexible usage. They are suitable for outdoor deployment and, thanks to their high function reserves, for operating ranges up to 120 m without any operational safety limitations. Thus, to put it succinctly, you could say about these tough sensors: reliability is the prime derivation of high performance.

The leading international trade fair for sensors, measuring, and testing technology, the SENSOR+TEST, will be held from 19 to 21 May 2015 at the Nürnberg Exhibition Center.

The SENSOR+TEST is a must-go venue for developers and engineers from all industries as well as for technically oriented engineering and science students. Without today’s sensor and measuring technology, appliances, machines, systems, and industrial processes could not be designed according to the state of the art or further developed in view of future innovations. Moreover, without the latest testing technology, the ever-increasing standards of quality could not be met within the cost limits imposed by external factors. There is no comparable platform where innovative users can meet so many important suppliers of sensor, measuring, and testing technology from all over the globe.

UniCarriers: IFOY Award for TERGO URS Combination of narrow-aisle and reach truck convinces the jury

The TERGO URS turret truck from UniCarriers has won the coveted International Forklift Truck of the Year (IFOY) award in the category of “storage technology equipment”. As such, the hybrid of narrow-aisle and reach truck outshone all four rivals on the starting line in the same category. The award was presented on 5th May at the BMW museum in Munich, on the edge of the CeMAT@transport logistics trade fair.

A compact, versatile bench-top system for real time gas and vapour analysis

The QGA compact benchtop mass spectrometer is configured for continuous real-time multi-species analysis of both gases and vapours in the pressure range from 2 bar to 100mbar absolute. Applications include thermal analysis, fermentation processes, catalysis and general gas reaction studies.

With mass range to 300amu and detection levels to 100ppb the system features the QGA operating program for quantitative analysis of up to 16 gases and vapours, together with an internal 10-peak spectral library and automated spectral overlap correction. Data is readily integrated in real time with external monitors including temperature, pressure and weight and with external gas monitors for applications such as CO monitoring in the presence of N2. The innovative APSI mode reduces molecular fragmentation by soft ionisation to refine analysis of complex organic molecules and enables selective ionisation of many gas species by selection of specific ionisation energies – helium and deuterium at mass 4 for example.

Rupture Discs: your most important safety device

Rupture or Bursting Discs, a non-reclosing, fail safe device. Probably the most misunderstood and least appreciated safety device used in systems where pressure or vacuum are present and where excess pressures or vacuum may need to be controlled and relieved when conditions exceed the safe design parameters.

The first discs were very simple flat pieces of metal, weakened to open, sometimes with very little accuracy or predictability, at a supposedly fixed pressure. Over the years the technology employed in controlling pressures in the various types of oil, gas, petrochemical and other downstream industries has improved and developed to high levels of safety, mostly through the use of electronics and pneumatics to maintain a safe working pressure regime in the various plants.

MIT Tests New Energy Valve Technology at Charles Hayden Library

Low Delta-T Syndrome is a common (and costly) problem in many large facilities, especially on sprawling campuses with central chilled water plants. This was and still is the case at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). But the problem isn’t as bad as it use to be. Facilityengineers within the University’s Sustainability and Utility Planning are now optimistic that it will continue to improve.

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) and Pump System Audits

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) Regulations 2014 came into force on 17 July 2014 and are a mandatory energy assessment and energy saving identification scheme for large undertakings (and their corporate groups). The scheme applies throughout the UK. ESOS Energy Audits have the potential to increase businesses profitability and competitiveness by identifying cost-effective savings which, if implemented, will improve energy efficiency. The scheme is estimated to lead to £1.6bn net benefits to the UK, with the majority of these being directly felt by businesses as a result of energy savings.

ESOS is the UK Government’s approach to transposition of Article 8(4) of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive, which requires all large (non-SME) enterprises to undertake energy audits by 5 December 2015 and every 4 years thereafter.

MIT Tests New Energy Valve Technology at Charles Hayden Library And Reaps the Rewards of Higher Delta-T!

Low Delta-T Syndrome is a common (and costly) problem in many large facilities, especially on sprawling campuses with central chilled water plants. This was and still is the case at The Massachusetts Institute of  Technology (MIT). But the problem isn’t as bad as it use to be. Facility engineers within the University’s Sustainability and Utility Planning are now optimistic that it will continue to improve. This is in thanks to new valve technology from Belimo that was applied to MIT’s Charles Hayden Library as a beta test for a new Belimo product – the Belimo Energy Valve™. The results are promising for any large facility currently battling Low Delta-T
