New seminars added to free seminar programme

The free seminar programme at Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2019 has been extended with further sessions addressing the latest advances in Industry 4.0, advanced manufacturing and materials. With 41 sessions running in two lecture theatres over all three days of the show, the 2019 programme is the most comprehensive ever offered and the chance to gain insight at the very highest level into many of the issues facing industry today. All sessions are completely free to attend and open to all visitors to the show.

The latest session to be added is Digital Transformation Opportunity for Manufacturers, with Paul Haimes of software specialists PLM Central. In his session, Paul discusses how the latest technology enables manufacturers to accelerate their Digital Transformation strategy and drive the future of industrial innovation. The session is just one of many addressing the opportunities presented by the digital revolution. In Making your Digital Breakthrough, Steven Barr of Edge Digital discusses how to maximise value from the right digital technologies for your business; analysing opportunities and breaking through to a strong vision of how to maximise value from wherever you are on your road to digitally-enhanced success.

The involvement of the many influential industry organisations in Southern Manufacturing 2019 will enable delegates to learn about the latest technical advances from some of the leading authorities in their respective fields. Topics under review this year include a look at the area of “Smart” polymer composite applications with Richard Collins, Senior Technology Analyst at IDTechEx. The benefits of incremental sheet forming (ISF) processes are explained by Roger Onions, Business Development Director of the GTMA. Stewart Williams, Professor of Welding Science and Engineering at Cranfield University will discuss the large scale additive manufacture of engineering components using Wire + Arc Additive Manufacture (WAAM) – a technique that is currently arousing great interest in many sectors of industry. Peter Harris and Joseph Bellis of Matsuura Machinery will also take a look at some applications in 3D Printing and Component Post Processing using the HP Multi-Jet Fusion.

Alan Fisher of the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium outlines what the organisation is doing to support the aerospace supply chain. Nour Eid, Technologist, Manufacturing & Structures at the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) looks at the opportunities and challenges associated with the implementation of Additive Manufacturing in Aerospace and how the benefits can be recognised across the aerospace structures, systems and propulsion communities. Steve Barbour will explain thermoplastic composite braiding – an innovative process with revolutionary benefits in composite manufacture, particularly suited to high volume manufacturing, creating lightweight structures and multi- functional components.
