Powder Power From Thermaset And Mallory Coatings

Tamworth based, powder coating manufacturer, Thermaset has its logo on the driver’s door of a TVR Sagaris GT race car, but you might be hard pressed to see it when Tim Hood is at the wheel and is driving past you at 200mph.

As a major sponsor of Jet Black Motorsports (Team JBM), Thermaset has supported Tim Hood and his team for..’x’.. years and in the process has shared in some impressive results.

The business relationship started 22 years ago when Tim’s business, Mallory Coatings, bought its first powder from Thermaset in 1992. By then Tim had made a name for himself driving his Ford Capri in the Slick 50 Road Saloons series. The following year he moved to the Honda CRX Championship where he was awarded ‘Best Newcomer.’

Following stints with the TVR Tuscan Challenge, where he was a regular top five finisher whilst competing with many current GT drivers, Tim assembled a new team which eventually marked the start of the TVR Sagaris era for the team.

The car raced in the British endurance Championship from 2008-2012, including twice in the Britcar 24-hour. The following year, Team JBM returned to the TVR Challenge and won every race entered in 2013.

The current TVR Sagaris is equipped with a GM LS7 V8 front mounted engine fitted with a racing dry sump system. The seven litre unit provides just under 600 bhp and approx 550 lb-ft of torque.

Thermaset finance director, Gill Mc Elhannan said: We are proud to sponsor Tim and his JBM team. As well as helping the team, the sponsorship enables Thermaset to get good brand awareness among the thousands of GT motor racing fans who follow the sport.”

Tim Hood said: “Thermaset is a great sponsor. We are grateful to have the company on board and have high hopes for the future. The car is probably the most highly developed racing Sagaris in existence at the moment.”
