The Filter Press co. Ltd

The Filter Press Co. Ltd is celebrating becoming an Authorised EU distributor for one of the top Filtration Equipment Manufacturers in China. As our company is an established supplier of filtration and separation equipment, we are fully committed to the development, design, manufacture, sales and services of our equipment, and feel that this commitment between our companies is the next step forward in our development.

The Filter Presses that we supply are manufactured with professional CAD/CAM production technology, modern manufacturing equipment, and ’State of the art’ inspection & testing. In order to meet the many varying filtering requirements of our customers, we are constantly developing and improving our product technology, quality, process automation and after-sale service, to be able to give you the service you would come to expect from our company.

The Filtration equipment we supply includes the Plate & Frame Filter Press, Chamber Filter Press, Membrane Filter Press, Stainless Steel Filter Press, Belt Filter Press and Polymer tanks. We also supply all the supporting filter cloths, Polypropylene filter plates and liquid-conveying pumps. We design and manufacture the hydraulic systems for the opening and closing of the Filter Presses, and the material-conveying equipment for the filter cake.

The sizes of our Filter Press Plates range from 320 x 320, up to our largest filter plates 2000 x 2000. The Filtration Area of our Filter Presses are from 1m² up to 2000m². The Cake Capacity of our Filter Presses are from 13 litres up to 20m³.

The Filter Press operation includes: Hydraulic jack and manual jack for opening and closing the filter plates, hydraulically operated by a small power pack along with a control panel with a PLC. The opening of the filter plates can be done automatically, and can incorporate a plate shaker to make sure the cake is released, also an automatic screen washing system can be installed.

The manufacturing materials of the filter plate includes: reinforced Polypropylene, stainless steel, cast iron, and coated cast iron. Reinforced polypropylene filter plates have the characteristics of offering large filter areas, increased filtering speeds, and stable chemical performance. In addition, they are corrosion-resistant, nontoxic, and odourless, all this with reduced weight, and high strength, greatly increase the working efficiency and economic performance of the Polypropylene plates. Metallic filter plates are precisely cast, resistant to high temperature and high pressure, sturdy and durable.

Filter Press Operation.

The slurry needed to be filtered is pumped into the centre of the press and fills up each chambers. The filling time should be as quick as possible in order to avoid cake formation in the first chamber before filling up the last chamber. While the chambers are being filled up, the pressure inside the system will increase due to the formation of thick sludge. Then, the liquid is filtered out through the filter clothes by pumping up to the Filter Press max pressure, typically around 6 to 12 bar. You can inject a stream of compressed air into the press to remove most of the liquor content following pumping.

Types of Filter Presses.

There are three main basic types of filter presses: Plate and Frame filter press, Recessed plate and frame filter press and Automatic filter press.

Plate and frame filter press.

Plate and frame filter press is the most fundamental design among all the other filter presses, and the majority nowadays refer it as “membrane filter plate”. This type of filter press consists of many plates and frames assembled alternately with the supports of a pair of rails down the side. The slurry pumps main function is to deliver the suspension into each of the separating chambers in the plate and frame filter. For each of the individual separating chambers, there is one hollow filter frame separated from two filter plates by filter clothes. The introduced slurry flows through a port in each individual frame, and the filter cakes are accumulated in each the hollow frame. As the filter cake becoming thicker, the filter resistance increases as well. So when the separating chamber is full, the filtration process is stopped as the optimum pressure difference had reached. The filtrate that passes through filter cloth is collected through collection pipes and stored in the filtrate tank. Whereas filter cakes (suspended solids) accumulation occurs at the hollow plate frame, then being separated at the filter plates by pulling the plate and frame filter press apart. The cakes would just fall off from those plates and being discharge to the final collection point .

Cake discharge can be done in many ways. For example: Shaking the plates while they are being opened or shaking the cloths. Scrapers can also be used, by moving from one chamber to another and scrape the cake off the cloth. At the end of each run, the cloths are cleaned using wash liquid and ready to start the next cycle.

Automatic Filter Press.

The Automatic Filter Press has the same concept as the manual Plate & Frame Filter Press, just that the whole process is fully automated. This usually consists of the larger Plates & Frame Filter Presses with a mechanical ‘plate shifter’. The function of the plate shifter is to move the plates and allow rapid discharge of the filter cakes accumulated in between the plates. The Filter Press also contains inflatable diaphragms in the filter plates which aids in optimizing the operating condition by further drying the filter cakes by compressing the cake and removing more of the filtrate.

Recessed plate filter press.

A Recessed-plate Filter Press is generally made up of Polypropylene Filter Plates of around  450 mm x 450 mm, up to 2000 mm x 2000 mm square with concave depressions and a hole in the centre. Two plates join together to form a chamber to pressurize the slurry and squeeze the filtrate out through the filter cloth lining in the chamber. The Filter Press is capable of holding from 12 to 80 plates adjacent to each other depending on the required capacity. When the filter press is closed, a series of chambers are formed. The  cake thickness is restricted to 32mm unless extra frames are used which acts as spacers.

Filter Media.

Typical Filtration areas range from 50 to 1000 m², even filter areas up to 2000 m² can be achieved.      Normally, plate and frame Filter Press can form up to 50 mm of cake thickness, and the recessed plate press can form up to 32 mm of cake thickness.

Feed & Efficiency.

Typical range of particle size and feed concentration are 1-100 μm and 1-30% by weight. The slurry feed concentration generally has a large amount of ultrafine particles. The percentage of solids concentration in the slurry feed is normally more than 10% by weight. Plate and frame filter press produce up to 99% of solids recovery and the moisture left in the cake is commonly ranging from 15% to 20%.
