Powering Progress – UK-Engineered Transformers Driving Offshore Energy Innovation
Electro-Wind Limited are proud to showcase one of our latest projects, in collaboration with a leading UK system integrator and automation solution provider. These custom-designed transformers will be seamlessly integrated into advanced power cabins and form part of a large system supporting offshore renewable operations.
These large-scale transformers serve as critical infrastructure components in the next generation of marine energy projects. Engineered for compact integration, they are custom-built to operate within constrained spatial environments, with voltage configurations ranging from 690V/3.3kV to 690V/6.6kV and a power rating of 500 kVA.
Each transformer unit is purpose-designed for the demanding conditions of offshore applications, where durability and operational reliability are essential. Standard features include high-performance fuses, voltage transformers (VTs), current transformers (CTs), anti-condensation heaters, and both fixed and swivel-mounted wheels to facilitate ease of transport and installation. These enhancements ensure optimal performance and longevity in harsh marine environments.
Strategically positioned on the back deck of the vessel, these custom-built transformers form the core of advanced power cabins designed to deliver efficient and uninterrupted energy transfer. Their integration is an essential part of a wider delivery system. The system will support the installation of subsea cables, critical for expanding offshore wind farms worldwide—projects that are helping to reshape global energy systems by harnessing renewable resources far from shore.
What this project represents, however, goes beyond the successful delivery of equipment. It speaks to the power of tailored engineering, UK manufacturing capability, and meaningful industry collaboration. It reinforces the idea that solving complex challenges in renewable energy requires more than standard solutions—it demands innovation, precision, and a deep understanding of real-world operating conditions.
This milestone serves as a reminder of the vital role that engineering plays in the global energy transition. As the offshore renewable sector continues to evolve, projects like this illustrate how purpose-driven design and strategic partnerships are paving the way for a more sustainable future.
More updates will follow as this initiative progresses toward full deployment. But for now, this achievement stands as a testament to what’s possible when industry expertise, technical ingenuity, and a commitment to sustainability come together.
