Innovative Moisture Measurement Technology by INADCO

INADCO Moisture Measurement BV located in the Dutch city of Eersel launches their innovative Moisturemeter II, which will allow the users to have continuous measurements of coarse bulk materials moist levels. In addition to this the Moisturemeter II, which has a patent pending, will also provide real time information on a wide range of physical parameters of that bulk stream also.

Since 2000 INADCO is the market leader in Europe for equipment that measures the Bulk Density of Growing Media like potting soil and peat according to the European standard EN12580. Initially the INADCO Moisture Measurement technology was developed to be used in these potting soil and peat markets and lead to the development and introduction of the Moisturemeter I in 2006.

Based on the principles of the preceding Moisturemeter I, the Moisturemeter II is a new innovation that makes the technology available for the wide range of coarse bulk materials used in the industry and the widespread industrial uses of Biomass like in power plants.

Currently many industrial installations face the problem of changing or unpredictable moisture percentages. That often leads to higher energy consumption, less efficiency, more rejects and even outage of installations. When using biomass for Power Generation, the higher the moisture percentage in the Biomass the lower the energy yield will be in the boiler since the water in the Biomass requires the installation to generate more energy for its heating and evaporation. For the highest yield possible the controls for the combustion process in the boiler always need to be adjusted when moisture percentages change. If controls are not adjusted properly the yield of the Biomass will go down and the emissions of Carbon Monoxides and Nitrous Oxides will increase.

The new Moisturemeter II is engineered around a conveyor belt and even has an integrated belt scale. It uses an innovative high frequency measuring system, which measures the bulk material through the belt upwards. As a result the Moisturemeter II can measure a range of parameters of the bulk material fed through the device. This in combination with state-of-the-art laser sensor technology guarantees instant information such as:

  • Flow and total mass of the bulk product
  • Flow and total mass of dry solids
  • Flow and total mass of water
  • Moisture percentage, actual and within batch
  • Temperature of the product
  • Total mass, per batch and lifetime
  • Bulk density, actual and within batch
  • Real time calorific value (in combination with the fuel value of Biomass)

When asked about the new innovation the INADCO CEO Theo Coolen stated: “It is very exciting that the technology that made us a market leader in other markets has now evolved into the most accurate Biomass measuring equipment on the market. We are very enthusiastic to be able to assist the Biomass industry with our expertise and solutions in realizing a higher output at a lower cost both from a financial and an environmental perspective”.

INADCO will be exhibiting with a working model of the Moisturemeter II at the 23th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition in Vienna, Austria from June 1 until June 4. INADCO and one week later at the POWER-GEN / RENEWABLE ENERGY exhibition held from June 9 until June 11 2015 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
