Kammac Supports UK Distribution of 100,000 Fancy Dress Costumes for World Book Day

Over 100,000 outfits are being distributed across the UK by third-party logistics provider, Kammac, helping bring stories to life for children this World Book Day as part of the “All Dressed Up” campaign. This project is in partnership with Every Child Deserves To Dream, a new initiative by philanthropist and media executive Joel Weinshanker, and Rubies, one of the world’s leading costume retailers.

With reading for enjoyment at its lowest level since 2005 and nearly one million children in the UK lacking access to books, this initiative aims to ensure more children can participate in the event and discover the joy of reading.

Kammac has provided storage, distribution, and fulfilment services to guarantee timely delivery for the 6th of March event. Over a 10-day period, the logistics provider has facilitated the shipment of costumes to 804 schools across the UK, ensuring those with over 25 percent of students on free school meals have access to dressing-up boxes. The average order size has been 68 units, with shipments ranging from a minimum of 2 items to a maximum of 460 per school.

The UK cost-of-living crisis has made it increasingly difficult for families to afford costumes, with 35 percent of parents struggling to participate in dress-up events. One in five children report feeling embarrassed or excluded, with some even missing school due to social pressure. By supporting Rubies, Kammac is helping to bridge this gap. The donated costumes, valued at over £1 million, will provide children with the opportunity to engage in the creative and social aspects of reading.

“We are incredibly proud to support Rubies with this initiative,” said Alec Hunt. “At Kammac, we are committed to delivering logistics solutions that make a real difference. By helping fulfil and distribute these costumes out of our Wavertree site, we are ensuring that more children, regardless of background, can take part in World Book Day.”

Through this collaboration, Kammac, Rubies, Every Child Deserves to Dream, World Book Day, Smiffys and Parentkind are working together to ensure that no child is left out of the magic of storytelling.
