Knight Optical’s Laser Optical Components

Lasers are widely used in manufacturing processes for multiple processes such as cutting, micromachining, welding and material processing.

Knight Optical has provided optical components used in lasers for decades, from zinc selenide components used in CO2 lasers, to our latest range of ultrafast laser optics.

Ultrafast lasers have gained popularity in laser micromachining due to the finer processing that can be achieved with minimal heat affect zones, which can be critical when machining materials such a printed circuit boards.

Our current product catalogue comprises of:

  • Low GDD Ultrafast Laser Mirrors
  • Broadband and Wide-Angle Laser Mirrors
  • Laser Thin Film Polarisers

These have all been coated using ion beam sputtering (IBS) technology allowing for optics that can meet the most demanding laser applications. This coating process creates dense layers of precise thin-film material which has the following benefits:

  • Durable coating which can withstand thermal effects even at high temperatures, with minimal thermal shift.
  • Non-porous with minimal surface roughness and therefore creating a virtually scatter free coating.
  • Low loss from absorption.
  • High laser damage thresholds (LIDT).

Our stock products are available as 12.7mm, 25.4mm, and 50.8mm diameters and their key features include:

  • Reflection values > 99.9% within their design wavelength range.
  • Exhibit minimal group delay dispersion (GDD) to prevent pulse broadening, which can be critical in ultrafast laser applications.
  • Precision flatness and surface quality to further minimise scattering.
