Linear actuators with on-board intelligence are compact rivals to hydraulics

Thomson announced a compact electromechanical linear actuato with built-in “intelligence” that can deliver up to 2kN of force. It says that the Electrak MD actuator offers an alternative to hydraulic actuators which are costly to maintain and need a lot of space.

The onboard intelligence enhances the actuator’s performance and saves space by keeping external components such as encoders and switches within the actuator housing. It offers easy control and communications, cutting operating costs and

simplifying setup and installation. The actuator provides position feedback, communications via the J1939 CANbus, low-current, PLC compatible switching, and an end-of-stroke output.
