NEW FULL SPECTRUM MODEL IPS-4 COMBINES ULTRAVIOLET WITH SINGLE BEAM /MULTIPLE WAVELENGTH IR TECHNOLOGY NDIR and UV Optics Achieve Unparalleled High-Quality Process Gas Analysis
PITTSBURGH, PA – Infrared analysis provides plant operators and process engineers a powerful tool for on-line component concentration measurement, but that analysis can be limited in accuracy due to cross interference in complex streams. Many gases exhibit multiple absorptions in the infrared spectrum. Those issues are eliminated with the new Model IPS-4 full spectrum analyzer from AMETEK Process Instruments.
The latest addition to the Model IPS-4 line of analyzers represents a quantum leap in technology and functionality. The full spectrum analyzer is able to measure up to eight components using the most favorable absorptions in both UV and IR spectrums eliminating cross sensitivity concerns. The highly robust unit combines a non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) platform and integrated sampling system with a field-proven UV-Vis platform. The versatile unit additionally offers unparalleled reliability and digital connectivity and is durable enough to be installed outdoors in a wash-down, hazardous, and environmentally harsh locations.
The Model IPS-4 full spectrum analyzer performs measurements simultaneously in the UV spectrum using diode array detection and in the IR spectrum using single beam multi-wave length technology. The readings are then cross correlated. The UV readings are further verified (Optical Bench Electronic Verification) by evaluating detector response to known change in lamp intensity, while the single beam/multiple wave length IR technology ratios the signal output of a desired component to a reference to minimize common mode errors.
The unit’s optical system incorporates long lifetime components and is designed for high light throughput and increased reliability. Its self-aligning design reduces maintenance significantly. The compact system has no filter wheel, no optical filters to replace and no optical couplings to align. Its light source – a Xenon lamp – has a 2+year life expectancy.
The IPS-4 possesses excellent temperature stability, reliability and features a host of self-diagnostic and predictive maintenance capabilities. The unit is equipped with numerous analog (4-20 mA) and digital communications capabilities, including RS232, RS485 with MODBUS RTU protocol and a built-in Fast Ethernet port. A built-in web-based user interface enables simple connectivity and communication via a company Ethernet system. The IPS-4 features a rugged stainless steel 22-key keypad and a four-line vacuum fluorescent display that can be menu selected for a range of different international languages.
The IPS-4 is engineered to be a fully integrated, turnkey solution that AMETEK will customize to specific end user requirements. Custom features include automatic zero and span, fluid injection, corrosion-resistant materials, filtration, pumps or eductors, and heated sample lines. It is is designed to handle most environmental challenges without additional protection or expensive shelters. The unit is supplied in an IP65 enclosure that exceeds the requirements of NEMA4 and is able to handle even wash-down environments without allowing water or dust to ingress.
Outdoors, the IPS-4 tolerates ambient temperatures from –20o to 50oC (-4o to 122oF) without external heating/cooling. Indoors, the analyzer is designed to take up minimal space. Its width has been kept to only 95 cm (less than 38 inches). Despite its compact size, the Model IPS-4 full spectrum analyzer integrates a wide range of custom sample handling and conditioning systems into the unit’s sample cell enclosure.
