Trantec bulk bag discharger for the food packaging industry

With over two decades of experience in designing and manufacturing dosing, weighing, and conveying equipment, Trantec Solids Handling has become a leading supplier of metering screw feeders, flexible screw conveyors, sack tip stations, and bulk bag dischargers. Superior in quality and build, Trantec equipment can be found deployed across the globe in many industries, from food to pharmaceutical and plastics, supplying equipment to some of the UK’s largest independent food and packaging manufacturers. Pioneers in the plastic packaging industry, Trantec prides itself on being at the forefront of the latest technologies and cutting-edge processes. Their in-house Innovation Centre and manufacturing facilities enable them to offer ‘the complete package’ from initial concept and design to production, decoration, and delivery.

During the covid-19 lockdown, Trantec was tasked with reengineering a ‘’bulk bag’’ FIBC discharge station already installed on-site at PFF packaging group and to provide an improved solution. The discharger would be used to discharge and convey virgin or recycled plastic flakes into their plastic film-making process for food packaging. PFF said it was essential to maintain commonality with elements of the current system to ease operator and maintenance training. Trantec quickly understood the customer’s requirements but suggested a ‘’split frame’’ design to make assembly on-site easier, with minimum lifting equipment required. The mainframe was fabricated in two sections, upper and lower, which made the installation possible using existing lifting equipment.

Once delivery and installation were completed, a member of the team at PPF stated, “We contacted Trantec to supply an FIBC hanging frame and a screw conveyor as we needed to integrate a new station into our existing three-station blending system. The team at Trantec worked with us to deliver the project within the required time frame despite the difficulties everyone has faced during the Covid-19 lockdown. The additional station allows us to be far more flexible when optimising our blends.”
