4K Inspection Made Easy: An Interview with Stephen Sanderson, International Product Manager at Vision Engineering Ltd

At PECM, we’re always on the lookout for the latest innovations that are shaping the future of engineering and manufacturing. Recently, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Stephen Sanderson, International Product Manager at Vision Engineering Ltd, to discuss their latest breakthrough in digital microscopy: the EVO Cam HALO.

Introducing the EVO Cam HALO

PECM: Stephen, thank you for joining us. Can you give our readers an overview of what makes the EVO Cam HALO such a standout product in the digital microscopy market?

Stephen Sanderson: Thank you for having me! The EVO Cam HALO is all about making 4K UHD inspection easy, accurate, and accessible. We’ve combined stunning 4K image quality with advanced, adaptive illumination to deliver unmatched precision and versatility for inspection and measurement tasks. Whether you’re inspecting electronics, medical devices, or precision components, the EVO Cam HALO is designed to make your workflow more efficient and your results more reliable.

4K Ultra HD for Unmatched Detail

PECM:  4K resolution is a big leap forward. How does this benefit users in practical terms?

Stephen Sanderson: The 4K image sensor delivers four times more detail than standard full HD cameras. This means users can see even the smallest features with incredible clarity. High Dynamic Range (HDR) ensures that important details aren’t lost in shadows or highlights, which is crucial for accurate inspections. Whether you’re looking at a PCB or a machined part, you’ll catch details that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Intelligent Features for Smarter Inspections

PECM: What intelligent features set the EVO Cam HALO apart from other digital microscopes?

Stephen Sanderson: The EVO Cam HALO is packed with smart features. The Auto Lens ID system automatically adjusts the magnification display, ensuring you always have accurate readings. Our quick-clip ring-lights are intelligent too—they save and recall settings when connected, and you can choose from quadrant-controlled white, white and UV, or wide-area panel lights. Changing lighting configurations takes just seconds.

Versatility and Precision

PECM: How does the EVO Cam HALO adapt to different inspection needs?

Stephen Sanderson:  Flexibility is key. The EVO Cam HALO offers a 20:1 zoom ratio, with a magnification range from 0.84x to 468x on a 27″ screen. You can capture images in JPEG, PNG, BMP, or TIFF formats, and control lighting from above or below. The 360-degree Oblique and Direct Viewer (ODV) lets you switch between direct and oblique views, rotating around the subject to inspect joints, intersections, and raised components from every angle.

Measure, Analyse, Report – All in one

PECM: Can you tell us about the measurement and reporting capabilities?

Stephen Sanderson: Absolutely. The EVO Cam HALO comes with our ViPlus software, which provides real-time insights and makes anomaly detection much easier. Image capture, measurement, and analysis tools are intuitive and powerful, delivering accurate, actionable results. This means faster, data-driven decisions and more efficient workflows—something every quality control team values.

Lighting and Lenses for Every Task

PECM: Lighting can make or break an inspection. How does the EVO Cam HALO address this?

Stephen Sanderson: We’ve equipped the HALO with a full range of lighting options, including quadrant-controlled top lights (white and UV), sub-stage illumination, and specialized EPI and contrast-enhancing illuminators. Our dedicated bayonet lenses are easy to fit and feature Auto Lens ID, with a filter thread for polarisation or other filters—ensuring you always have the right setup for the task at hand.
