Andrews celebrates 50 years as hire specialist
Andrews Sykes this year celebrates 50 years in sector that has seen them grow to become a dominant player in the hire of industrial equipment such as air-con, dehumidifiers, boilers and chillers, heaters and ventilation equipment. “Now firmly established as one of the UK’s leading specialist hire firms, we have much to celebrate as we look back on five decades of sustained growth,” says Paul Wood – Managing Director.
“What started off as a humble heater and steam cleaner supplier in Wolverhampton and developed into a multi-million pound, multi-national corporation that has only been made possible by the dedicated endeavours of our staff.”
Originally a one-man operation that started in the mid 1960’s, the Andrews specialist hire business now has over 600 employees with depots in Western Europe and the Middle East.
Founder John Andrews started with a vision and modest budget before laying the substructures that have underpinned every venture undertaken since that inaugural year. By the 1970s, the organisation had successfully branched out into summer products – in the form of temporary air conditioning – and this was arguably one of the key turning points which helped shape its future path.
Despite periods of upheaval in the UK economy Andrews has successfully weathered the storms and exists today much stronger than it has ever been. Throughout its 50 years Andrews continually invested in modern plant and equipment as well as business premises. Today it operates from more than 25 depots across the UK with an extensive modern equipment fleet ensuring fast local supply of hire equipment.
The company also has a growing presence in Europe and even further afield, opening a first depot in the Netherlands in 1971. Since then, they have branched out to Belgium, Italy, France, Switzerland and even the Middle East – with further expansion imminent.
In the coming months Andrews will be holding a number of events, schemes and competitions for both its customers and staff to enjoy, as it looks ahead to what is hoped will be another half-century of prosperous enterprise.
