Underwater Marine & Offshore
For almost four decades Elmeridge have built a reputation for designing, producing and distributing low voltage custom made cables. Here are just a few examples, with a brief description and background context:
Polyurethane Cable – We provided our polyurethane cable to a North Sea fish farm. Fifteen years later we got a call to say that the cable had failed. However, after close inspection we found it was in fact the connector that had failed, not the cable. Needless to say, the cable was placed back into operation with a new connector, and as far as we know it is still in use today, more than 20 years later. Our Supreme Polyurethane compound is widely used by numerous underwater marine and offshore companies thanks to its superior properties. It is hydrolysis, UV, and abrasion resistant, offering robust durability under challenging conditions. Despite its toughness, the compound retains flexibility and is available in a range of colours.

Termite-Proof Compounds – Elmeridge have produced three compounds that are termite-proof. These cables were subjected to 54 days in a lab-based Australian termite mound, which are among the world’s most aggressive termites, with no adverse effects. Our commitment to producing quality cable is second to none. The compounds tested were Hytrel, Polyurethane, and Polyethylene.
Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic – Our pushrod cables for pipes and drains have proved to be the toughest on the market and can be pushed further than any others. This is due to a special GFRP (Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic) rod that is used in our cables, which is only supplied by Elmeridge. Our pushrod cables are available in various sizes.
Drain Pushrod Cable
Steel Wire Armour – Elmeridge were contacted to supply the Spanish Navy with a 40-tonne breaking strain cable. Our design used a Kevlar aramid yarn and two contra-helically wound layers of Nitronic 50 steel wire armour. Due to confidentiality, we are not able to say how the cable was used, but it was successfully deployed and is fully operational.
Double Armoured Tow Cable
Rodent-Resistant – We were approached by the Hong Kong transport department to provide our rodent-resistant rail cables for a major upgrade to their Metro system, prior to the transition from UK to Chinese rule on 1st July 1997. Following this, our rodent-resistant cables have been installed extensively across the southern UK rail network, and the London Underground for trackside signalling and monitoring.

Single Core – We have supplied various cables over the years to Formula 1 management, using compounds such as Hytrel for single core cables in many different colours. Their in-car camera cables were breaking down and Elmeridge were approached to provide a solution to this problem. Our team was able to prevent vibration degradation of the braids within the cable, thereby solving the problem.
Buoyant Fibreoptic Cable – Our buoyant fibreoptic cable is regularly in production, and most recently we produced a single 5km length of buoyant fibreoptic cable with a breaking load of 750kg, to view the condition of the culverts under London.
Marine Fiber Optic Cable
36-Core Umbilical Cable – Another ingenious design from the team is our 36-core umbilical cable, designed for a ship’s radar navigation system. This can be fixed to a folding mast which is folded when passing under bridges and other overhead obstructions without damaging the cable, maintaining the ship’s systems and signals.
Flexible Radar Cable
Silicone Cable – Elmeridge were asked to supply two silicone cables with a reduced outer diameter to a medical company. Our team’s solution was to combine the two cables into one, thereby maintaining the required level of flexibility.

Sensor Cables – Elmeridge supply many different types of sensor cables, some of which are produced with an inner nylon vent-tube for pressure sensing. These cables have been supplied to companies in India, Europe, and the UK.
Floating Sensor Cable
Copper Braid – A project for the Royal Air Force was to supply a high-grade circular copper braid with a clear PVC sheath. This braid was attached to the aircraft during refuelling to prevent a build-up of static electricity, reducing the risk of fire hazard by grounding out the aircraft.
CDT Cable – We are also proud to work with the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), supplying cables of 8,000 and 10,000 metres of CTD (Conductivity Temperature and Depth) Cables for the RRS Sir David Attenborough (pictured), and RRS James Clark Ross.
