Munters protects electronics
Managing overall environmental control is essential for electronics manufacturing processes and operations as well as facilities that provide mission critical services. Room temperature must be kept low in order to keep hard working servers from overheating. However, lowering the temperature can cause condensation, which can be dangerous in an electronic environment.Munters’ solutions provide the optimal environment through desiccant dehumidification, evaporative cooling and air-to-air energy recovery while using less energy than conventional systems. Munters’ desiccant dehumidifiers can effectively maintain the most stringent humidity conditions protecting equipment from condensation and corrosion. Munters’ innovative cooling technology manages thermal loads and reduces energy consumption.
Many semi-conductor and electronics operations require closely controlled dry conditions. The presence of excessive humidity / moisture causes corrosion of ‘circuit points’, condensation on a microchip’s circuit surface and improper adhesion of photoresists causing operational failure of the semi-conductor. To provide the right working environment Munters desiccant dehumidifiers are used.
A humid environment will cause electronic failures in all kinds of electronic equipment. A United States Air Force study attributes 20% of all electronic failures to corrosion on contacts and components, etc., even if they have approved coatings.
Humidity will also influence the resistance values of insulation materials. This will cause minute currents to flow where they shouldn’t, triggering system check failures and in some case irreparable damage. Lowering the Relative Humidity (RH) to a level around 45% with Munters desiccant dehumidification will cut the number of malfunctions in half, compared with ambient conditions of approx. 80% RH.
Humid air itself can be a good conductor. In the case of electronics such as generators, switchgear, circulators, radars and communication equipment a too humid environment can lead to severe arcing and fires. In radar systems, humidity can cause ionisation of the air inside wave guide tubes. In those cases the air inside the wave guides should be dehumidified to a very low dewpoint.
Munters’ desiccant dehumidifer’s are used to protect electronic control equipment and bus bars from corrosion and problems caused by flashovers. The high dielectric constant of dry air means improved isolation, consequently less flashovers and less costly related problems.
This simple yet highly-efficient protection eliminates corrosion and humidity-induced electronic faults. Munters solution ensures reliable operation with fewer failures and lower maintenance costs – maximising plant availability and profitability.
